The Materials, Optics, Photonics and Systems Laboratory / Laboratoire Matériaux, Optique, Photonique et Systèmes (LMOPS) brings together research teams from the Université de Lorraine and CentraleSupélec, at the Metz, Saint-Avold and Thionville sites. It brings together nearly 30 teacher-researchers and some fifteen PhD students, divided into several teams along 3 research axes. It was created in 2000 from the Optical Materials with Specific Properties Laboratory / Laboratoire Matériaux Optiques à Propriétés Spécifiques, a laboratory of the Université de Metz, when its then second supervisory entity, Supélec, joined it. It hosts the unique Photonics Chair, created in 2017, within its eponymous team. The laboratory is part of the Université de Lorraine's Scientific Cluster M4: Matter, Materials, Metallurgy and Mechanics / Matière, Matériaux, Métallurgie et Mécanique.

RESEARCH AREAS

Research activities at LMOPS are structured around three research axes:

  • The Materials axis, whose research themes cover the manufacture of functional materials, notably for optics and optoelectronics, and nano-composite polymers and their fire behavior.
  • The Photonics axis, whose research focuses on nonlinear optics, vibrational spectroscopy and optical devices (AI and sensors).
  • The Systems axis, dedicated to the study and optimization of devices and systems for photovoltaic energy production.
