Hugo Duminil-Copin, a French mathematician specializing in probability and a tenured professor at Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES) since 2016, was awarded Fields medal at the International Congress of Mathematicians held in Helsinki, Finland.
Considered the world's most prestigious distinction in the field of mathematics, the Fields Medal crowns the exemplary scientific career of Hugo Duminil-Copin, who is also an ordinary professor at the Mathematics Section of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Geneva, as well as the exceptional contribution of his work to the progress of mathematical sciences.
This is the eighth Fields Medal awarded to an IHES professor (out of twelve professors in mathematics since the creation of the Institute), the eleventh Fields Medal for the University of Paris-Saclay, of which the IHES is a founding member, and the sixteenth Fields Medal awarded to a laboratory under the supervision of the CNRS.
